Inspiration

The invention below helps to spur the creative juices when watching a loved one young or old struggle to use a tool. The guide in developing a product should be is if you can use an item if your hand is formed into a fist then it is universal. I was in a popular shoe store yesterday using my ATM card and I automatically puched the lower right button to approve the transaction. Instead of improving it the transaction was cancelled. The sales clerk says that it happens constantly. Most ATM machines approve buttons are on the bottom right. Universal design step should be intuitive.

Designer James Cadogan of Baskerville Studio in Cornwall, UK, has designed a bent ruler that’s easier for people with arthritis to pick up. his inspiration was watching his grandfather struggle. The ruler allows fingers underneath it for easier pick up. The prototype is made from laminated bamboo. Cadogan plans on making a stainless steel version.

It requires pressure to hold it down.
